Puerto Calero is only a few kilometres in distance from the bustling resort of Puerto del Carmen, but a world away in style and atmosphere. Home to some of the finest Lanzarote villas and hotels, as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants. Before 1983 Puerto Calero did not exist until it was dreamed up by the developer José Calero as an exclusive retreat to provide a luxury marina, residential development and golf course for the island of Lanzarote.
The Marina is a great place to wander, look at the fabulous boats and generally soak up a bit of the luxury atmosphere that permeates the whole place. You can certainly spend a few hours sat in one of the cafes or great range of restaurants that overlook the marina.
Puerto Calero is the base for a number of water based activities, such as the Catlanza catamaran trips, Submarine excursions and a variety of sport-fishing boats which allow you to try your skill at landing Marlin and Blue-fin Tuna in some of the best and most productive waters to be found. There are also dive schools operating out of the Marina who offer instruction and guided dives from beginner through to advanced levels. The array of shops in Puerto Calero is not vast, but you will find some very nice boutiques alongside souvenir shops which are more upmarket than in the other resorts of Lanzarote.
Puerto del Carmen first got going in the Sixties and since then it’s upped the tempo from its fishing village roots to become the most popular tourist destination in Lanzarote. The waterside promenade doubles up as the main strip – it’s packed with bars, clubs and restaurants, and it also looks out over a trio of beaches. You still get a bit of Puerto del Carmen’s former charm, though, as you’ll see from the authentic eating places in the old town.
Puerto del Carmen comes with 3 sandy beaches. The main one, running along the promenade, is Playa Grande with its sunloungers, umbrellas and gently shelving shoreline. Walk for about 10 minutes and you come to Playa Chica in the old town. It’s a bit quieter and secluded, and the diving centre makes it popular with snorkelers and scuba divers. And to the east is Playa Pocillos – a huge swathe of sand with windsurf-ready waves.
Villa Palmitas We have just returned from a wonderful week at Villa Palmitas, we loved it so much we are already trying to decide when we can get out there again. The villa was absolutely perfect and met our needs 100%, we have a young son, and we found the villa extremely child friendly there was plenty of outside space for him to play and the pool area was very safe. Looking forward to returning soon!
We have just returned from Villa Palmitas. We have had a great holiday. We have been in the house for 2 weeks with 4 adults, a 2 year old child and a baby. It's really child friendly!!!
Good service, great house, short-drive from the airport and located between Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen.
What do you need more?
We stayed here for 2 weeks over the New Year. The villa is brilliant and very well equipped indeed. The views from the grounds are stunning and the photographs on here do not do it justice. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. We all had a fantastic time and hope to return again!
We had a fantastic stay at Villa Las Palmitas in early June. We shared the villa with another family - so 4 adults and 4 toddlers and it suited our needs perfectly! It was spacious and clean with a selection of toys for the children as well as a fantastic pool and of course the hot tub. It's a good location - so close to the airport, yet very private and with beautiful sea and mountain views. The weather was great and the staff very helpful. Would recommend!
Five adults,in great accommodation, superb views, easy access to local facilities, great place to be to really relax. The whole experience was enjoyed by all. Thanks. Malcolm
villa palmitas was everything i wanted for myself and my family,it was close to all the things and places we needed. we had plenty of space inside and out for our party of 6 adults and 3 children we were very sad when our holiday came to an end, we could have stayed a lot longer.i am so glad to have found this villa and would highly recommend it.
What an amazing villa this is, the perfect location overlooking Puerto Calero, furnished to an incredibly high standard, the games room, the pool, the jacuzzi, don't know what else to say except we will be coming back very soon ! FABULOUS
Villa Las Palmitas has a very unique location - right on the rocky coast with no other houses around except for the owner's a bit further down the road. We love the setting, 360 open views, sea in front and mountains in the back. It is not a lush vegetation type of landscape but we find it absolutely stunningly beautiful. The pictures do show the pool and the rooms as they are. We went in second half of Feb so it is still not warm, about 23C during the day. Given the setting, pool area was very windy so we were not able to use the pool as much as we'd like. Probably ok during much warmer weather. Hot tub was great. The house manager was super helpful and kind, bringing us heaters and propane for the BBQ (when we discovered can was empty). Villa is very clean. We do think it could do with more and some new utensils, knives etc. By day 7 we did not want to leave.
Another fabulous holiday with Lanzarote Retreats ! The only place to go for quality service and accommodation in Lanzarote, we don't even bother looking anywhere else.
