Casa Hibiscus is situated in the tranquil, coastal fishing village of Punta Mujeres where guests can experience the laid-back Lanzarote lifestyle, getting a real taste of traditional Canaries life.
Casa Hibiscus is a modern, spacious, semi-detached holiday villa, situated in a well-maintained, private and gated complex of six-holiday villas, which share a 3.5 x 5-meter solar-heated swimming pool.
Set just back from the sea in the traditional Canarian fishing village of Punta Mujeres, the holiday villa has been individually furnished to a high standard with families in mind, sleeping up to six guests, plus cots. Casa Hibiscus can be rented alongside the smaller Casa Lila, which is next door but one, making it perfect for families or friends travelling together.
Casa Hibiscus is entered from the private, fenced and gated terrace, leading straight into a light and airy open-plan living/dining room, which has been furnished in a simple, contemporary style and has WIFI, Smart TV, DVD, and CD/stereo. Laid out over three floors, the villa has stair gates fitted throughout to ensure peace of mind for guests with young children. The dining area has seating for six guests and a fully equipped, bespoke wood kitchen with granite worktop, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, hand-blender and child-friendly plastic cutlery and tableware. Also on this floor, there is a double bedroom with a modern, full bathroom next door with a hairdryer.
A skylight maintains the light and airy feel above the wooden-balustrade staircase, which leads to the first floor. Here, the south-facing master bedroom has a kingsize double bed, fitted wardrobes in the dressing area and a balcony, with table and chairs, overlooking the pool area and beyond to the sea and village. The third bedroom has a set of bunk beds and room for a travel cot. Between these two bedrooms is a second bathroom with a walk-in shower.
In the basement, there is a laundry area, patio drying area and a storage room that’s ideal for storing any water sports equipment.
Outside, the fenced and gated terrace, ideal for families with younger children, have two sun-loungers, dining furniture for six and a barbecue, making it perfect for al-fresco eating, whilst watching the children play in the pool.
Punta Mujeres is a charming village and is a 20-minute walk along the seafront promenade to Arrieta where you can find a variety of restaurants and the golden sand beach of La Garita. It is also just 15 minutes drive from the popular Costa Teguise resort, with all its amenities, golden sand beach and water sports.

Punta Mujeres
A sleepy little fishing village where you can totally immerse yourselves in a Canarian cultural experience far away from the main tourist areas and mostly undiscovered by tourist operators. This is a hidden gem where you encounter only the local fishermen and a few more adventurous travellers. However due to this island being so small it is still only a 40 minutes drive from the main airport and in easy reach of all Lanzarote’s other great experiences.
Here you are off the beaten track as many tourists unknowingly bypass this hidden secret as they make their way to bigger name attractions, that are still nearby, such as Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes.
The Punta Mujeres coast line is lined with natural rock pools that fill at high tide and make the most wonderful locations for a relaxed dip with the family. The main natural pool is overlooked by ‘La Pascina’ the locals favourite tapas bar that serves local wines and freshly prepared traditional tapas dishes. There are also stunning small sandy coves to be explored.
There are a surprising number of little supermarkets dotted around the village, Las Rosas – the bakery and a good selection of restaurants such as Palenke which often offers live Spanish entertainment and has a wood fired grill that produces some good food,
Many locals have built their houses as close to the sea as possible, creating small alleyways and cul-de-sacs where homes look out over the sea. One or two houses almost blend in and disappear altogether, as they are constructed of volcanic stone. There are numerous pretty terraces and balconies, painted the traditional blue that once denoted the dwelling of local fishermen.
Further along the coastline the village reveals the remnants of an old gofio mill as well as a small muelle or harbour. A further echo of Punta Mujeres sea-faring past.
Punta Mujeres benefits from a good deal more protection than other parts of the coastline, thanks to the rocky hills behind it, these were formed by old lava flows from Monte Corona, the biggest and oldest volcano on the island. With your back to the sea, Monte Corona is very visible. As is all of the badland or ‘malpais’, the lava covered land surrounding the volcano. The tunnels which form the Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes were all created by the eruptions which emanated from here.
Nice holiday home in a pretty village. Would definitely recommend.
Nos gustó todo, la casa, los detalles, la limpieza y su ubicación. Muy recomendable.
We liked everything, the house, the details, the cleanliness and the location. Highly recommended.
Casa Hibiscus is ideal for a small family; in our case it was two grandparents, two parents and one eight-year-old. It is a comfortable house with very good facilities for a relaxed family holiday. The shared pool is very well-maintained, though cold!
We stayed for 6 days at Casa Hibiscus last week. The house is equipped with all comforts, suitable for a family (clean, spacious, with the necessary equipment and kit for the beginning of the stay). The location is ideal for those who want tranquility, proximity to the sea and a typical village. Moreover the location is close to Manrique's sites.
Trato exquisito, alojamiento impecable. En definitiva muy recomendable - Exquisite treatment, impeccable accommodation. In short, highly recommended
We have been to Lanzarote many times and this was the first time we opted for self catering as we travelled with family and friends and wanted to be based in the North of the island to enjoy the real Lanzarote rather than the large resorts. This is a home from home, very well equipped including everything we needed for our young grandson. Potty, plastic plates and cutlery and stairgates. We swam in the natural sea pools just a short walk away. The nearby Finca de Arrieta an Eco Village invited us for their paella evening. Such a lovely social evening and excellent food and drink. Renata, organised a trip on Catlanza for us that we thoroughly enjoyed. There are food options available to guests and for our last night we enjoyed the pizza´s delivered to us. Everyone we spoke to from the business were caring, patient and passionate to ensure we got the best from our holiday. A welcome change from the usual holiday providers. We are already planning to return next year.
Stayed here with my family over NY, nice big villa in lovely peaceful village. Ticked all our boxes thanks guys! Xx
A friend and I stayed at this 3 bedroom house at Punta mujeres during the month of March 2016. We had a great time, the house was beyond our expectations, very clean, spacious, well equipped, light and airy, the swimming pool is located in the centre and away from the wind. Punta Mujeres is a small fishing town, very nice, not at all crowded but we had restaurants and shops near by. Everything was perfect.
Casa Hibiscus - We stayed in Casa Hibiscus for a week in October half term. We had a great time! The villa itself was clean and modern and the added child-friendly touches were a bonus. With a lively 2 year old we certainly needed the stair gates and the gated pool! The village itself was lovely and quiet and we enjoyed evening walks to the local tavernas and restaurants. We'd certainly recommend a visit!
Casa Hibiscus - Perfect little get away, thank you
Stayed for a week in Casa Hibiscus in May 2010. The owners were very hospitable , friendly and obviously cared about customer service. They even gave us a lift to a local restaurant and back. The house is very clean and well equiped in a pleasant, quiet Spanish Village with small bars and two good local restaurants. There are idyllic quiet beaches just North of the village. Great place to stay if you want to avoid busy resorts.
We have stayed three weeks in Casa Hibiscus, and this has been the best holidays we have spent in Lanzarote. The house is perfectly prepared for children, the swiming pool is perfect and is hot during afternoon. We liked it very much, the village Punta Mujeres is very quiet for children and to relax. We will definately go another time.
Thnak you very much.
We had an absolutely fantastic time at Casa Hibiscus a couple of weeks ago. Michelle made the arrangements so simple that all we had to do was turn up and enjoy ourselves! Having Jill on hand was great too and she really looked after us all. We made the most of the great restaurant & days out recommendations and as we didnt get to see and do everything we all want to come back next year!
The welcome bottle of bubbles and the other essentials were such a lovely touch so thank you, thank you, thank you!
Spent a lovely relaxing week in Casa Hibiscus in Punta Mujeres during January 2012- very comfortable and only half an hour from the airport. Welcoming little touches like the bottle of bubbly and the swans on the bed with the hibiscus flowers!! We ordered the local produce box so had enough supplies for a good few days. Also great little local mini market. Lovely to be able to just walk from the house to the sea in a few minutes. Retreats team very friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed the paella evening (veggie quiche as substitute as I'm vegetarian) - met some lovely people staying at the Finca. Other highlights, natural lagoon for swimming near Orzola - ten minutes in the car, Haria Saturday market and we really enjoyed the various Cesar Manrique sites, using the volcanic landscape - his former house is amazing. First time on Lanzarote and would definitely return with Retreats. K + V
Very comfy, clean and practical - thanks for all the toddler toys, plastic plates and cutlery (one less thing to pack!)...
Nice location, Lanzarote is all v accessible anyway but this was a good place for the more Spanish northern end rather than tourist laden south (though for sandcastles wind free we did still head south).
Very well equipped with pretty much everything you'll need (dishwasher would top it off). Plenty of space which you don't always expect from a holiday let. Pitched at the right level of comfort so you feel at home straight away. Will certainly consider coming back.
We absolutely loved our time at this very special place..the villa was the perfect base for us to explore beautiful Northern Lanzerote. The Twins are 3 and Digby only 7 months so it could have gone hideously wrong but we had such a fun time. Favourites included: hanging out in the evening at the old school social club watching the locals play boules, dominoes etc, spending the day at the beautiful lagoon near Orzola, Haria and its market, Teguise (NOT the Costa!) and taking the nets down to the numerous small beaches in the village for a spot of fishing. Loved the retreat in Arrieta too and thanks to Tracy for the wonderful yoga. Quiet place in the evenings but we loved being amongst the locals and feel we have given the kids a real Lanzerote experience.
Our stay at Casa Hibiscus was very enjoyable and facilitated a great holiday. The villa is well equipped and comfortable with plenty of room for a family with small children. The gate on the terrace also gives peace of mind if one is worried about little ones gaining access to the pool. Do bring a torch if arriving in the dark. The gateway into the villa has an immediate step up onto a bridge over the pool and it caught us out. The village of Punta Mujeres is lovely. It is very quiet so peaceful nights sleeps were had by all. We swam in the lava pool behind the villa and were sorely tempted by the ones outside La Piscina and further up the village. La Piscina was our regular morning coffee joint. The owner was happy for us to bring our own patries (postres) as he didn't sell them. We would buy our bread and posters everyday in the local mini market, all yummy and fresh. Lovely staff there by the way. We ate in La Cantina (Teguise) , Macon de Frontera (Haria), Il Lago (between PM and Arrietta) all of which were recommended and all were lovely. For super value La Chingurita by the beach in Arrietta is a knock out. 26 for a feast of delicious food including beer and juice. There is a fantastic coastal walk from the end of Punta Mujeres to the Jameos del Agua. It takes 25 minutes, just follow the white pillars in the ground. It is not difficult but you do have to watch your step on some of the route as it's uneven. But a really wonderful way to start the day with a return walk or wait until the Jameos opens at 10am and have your visit, coffee and then walk back. For kids the Rancho Texas park was great fun. The water park is super and the whole complex is immaculate. Just find out when the bird show and sea-lion displays are to organise your day. There's a lovely playground in Teguise for children. Everything Ceasar Manrique touched is joy to behold so visit all his sites. There is a lovely place in La Geria called El Chupadero that serves lovely tapas and wine but the views are the reason to visit especially at sunset. Get there an hour early to enjoy the end of the day with a glass of chilled wine and some datiles con bacon with the Montanas del Fuego as a backdrop. Bliss. For those of us who are not drinking (pregnant or driving or both) Dorada sin alchol is available everywhere and is a good alternative. There is also a super icecream parlour/cafe in Arrieta opposite the Fisherman's Cottage. Very reasonable and the staff were very kind to our son. Lanzarote is the most beautiful place and we will return year after year.
