Finca De Arrieta
Most of our eco properties – the Eco Yurts, Eco Garden Cottage,Eco Barn, Eco Tower, Eco Lodge and Eco Luxury Villa – are situated on the beautiful 30,000-metre estate, Finca de Arrieta, which is also the site of our family home. Originally farming land, it has been lovingly transformed into a rural idyll, featuring mature exotic gardens, including mango, banana, guava and lime trees, animal enclosures and a play area – all partly walled in stone found on the finca. For more information on yurts, visit our What is a yurt? page.
Guests have shared use of a solar-heated 10-metre lap pool and plunge pool, as well as a chill-out area with shaded Polynesian-style daybed – all in a gated mature garden setting with sea and mountain views. Here you’ll also find a spacious covered open room with hardwood floor for guests’ use. There is a large, fully equipped kitchen, dining space for eight, authentic Moroccan floor seating, WIFI access and a further toilet and shower room. It’s the perfect place to relax, read or enjoy a meal.
For convenience there is an onsite honesty shop in the room underneath the Eco Tower. The shop offers goods such as, Milk, Pasta, Charcoal, Washing Powder and Local Products including a selection of locally produced wines.
Lanzarote Retreats has ten ecological properties and we’re very proud of our green credentials. All are off the national grid, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a sustainable holiday, experiencing first-hand what it’s like living with solar panels, wind turbines and using the latest renewable energy technology, which makes the most of our wonderful Lanzarote weather. You’ll be surprised at the luxury of our accommodation.
The Location
Just 30 kilometres from the capital Arrecife, with its airport and ferry terminal, Finca de Arrieta remains an off-the-beaten-track location – the perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful holiday in the Canarian countryside with the bonus of being near the beach.
The Village of Arrieta is within walking distance from the retreat but is via a farm track which is not ideal for buggies or walking in the dark, so we always recommend car hire (therefore a 2 minute drive).
This is a wonderful place to experience the true Lanzarote lifestyle. The village is an authentic Canarian fishing village with a beautiful sandy beach, where you’ll find good-value seafront tapas bars and restaurants, supermarkets, shops and a bakery.

Local area, facilities & services
The area around Finca de Arrieta is stunningly beautiful and a chance for you to see the "real Lanzarote". The coastal, fishing village of Arrieta has been left unchanged and unspoilt and feels like stepping back in time. The village is a 10 minute walk from the Finca along a farm track and via an under-road tunnel, not ideally suitable for families with pushchairs or small children. The village is a 2 minute drive away. Due to the rural location of Finca de Arrieta, there is no street lighting at night.
There is a small sandy beach just 200 metres from the retreat and a main beach with beach bar, restaurant and toilets at the end of the village. There are a number of fantastic sea front fish restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shops. The village also has a supermarket, a variety of shops, petrol station and diving school.
The mountain Village of Haria is just a short drive away. Known as "The Valley of a Thousand Palms", the town has a spectacular location and the views out to the ocean are breathtaking. Every Saturday morning, there is an artisan market, visit our Local Markets page for more information.
There are a number of golden sandy beaches on the way up north to the fishing village of Orzola. From here, there is a local ferry over to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. For more information on how to visit La Graciosa, visit our Days Out, Sports and Activities page.
Due to its rural location, there are some fantastic walking/cycling trails from the village along the coast, either north to the neighbouring village of Punta Mujeres or south to Mala village or Guatiza, home to the famous Cactus Garden.
The northerly region of Lanzarote is fantastic for walking, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, windsurfing, road cycling, hand and paragliding, fishing and bird watching.
There is also a gym in the nearby village of Arrieta.
Further Afield
Within a short drive from Finca de Arrieta, you will be able to experience the beauty and tranquility of northern Lanzarote.
The tropical bird park in Guinate with its wide variety of animals, birds and plants is very popular with families. The atmospheric caves and lava caverns of Jameos del Agua and Cuevas de los Verdes are both amazing and unique examples of the work of Cesar Manrique. The viewpoint at Mirador del Rio, looking out over the island of La Graciosa, is a perfect spot to get away from it all, be still and reflect.

A wonderful place with great facilities and friendly staff. Thanks particularly to Sally and Manuel for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The cottage is truly amazing. I will be coming back ASAP.
We have just come back from 9 days at the Eco cottage. Our little boy loved the toys, play area, trampoline and of course Molly the donkey! Lovely accomodaition (really well equipped), amazing location (fantastic local beach) perfect for a relaxing holiday.
We've just crashed back to reality with a bump having spent the most blissful week in the Garden Cottage. It's the perfect place to stay for a couple, in the most beautiful surroundings. We were made to feel very welcome, more like friends rather than paying guests. There was plenty to do so we didn't get bored, but also we had the most chilled time of it, so relaxing! Must recommend the wine, the paella, the caves and the trip to La Graciosa. A big thank you to everyone who made our stay so special!
The cottage was absolutely perfect for a couple. Probably wouldnt have anybody else in there - we had our two teenage girls up stairs in the tower which worked beautifully. Perfect setting, lovely and quiet (except for the Fiestas - probably best to go and join in!). Kitchen had everything we needed with a lovely quirky bathroom. Fantastic few days thank you.
We just had 12 nights in the Eco Garden Cottage and it was even better than we could possibly have imagined. The Finca is every bit as beautiful as the photos on the website suggest, and the shared areas around the pool make it feel very homely, with an outside kitchen, fridge full of beer and juice, lots of cushions and a good stock of books. Even though there are quite a few yurts/cottages on the site it remains a peaceful, private sanctuary and the owners and guest relations manager are very friendly, helping to create a really relaxed atmosphere while being on hand for any questions. We hired a car as it was our first visit to Lanzarote and we wanted to go everywhere! It was well worth it; there is a lot to see on the island. We particularly enjoyed visiting the volcanic landscape of the Timanfaya National Park (where we also rode a camel!) and the wine region around it – got some great photographs and discovered a lovely tapas bar called El Chupadero on the road south just before Bodega La Geria – they did fabulous crepes with cactus jam! There are lots of other gastronomic delights on the island; highlights for us were dinner at the Jameos del Agua restaurant (well worth going there in the evening, it’s far less ‘touristy’) and probably the best garlic prawns in the world at Ta Hoyo restaurant in Arrieta village. The chef from Ta Hoyo also came and cooked for the Paella night for guests at the Finca, which was a lovely sociable occasion for meeting others and enjoying a tasty meal and sangria, without having to go anywhere. The best day for us was our last day, when we joined an excursion organised by the Finca to Isla Graciosa, where we went snorkelling and kite flying with Kirsty (friend of the owners and also World Champion Kite Surfer!), had lunch in a restaurant and then jumped into the harbour (it was a very hot day...). We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at the Finca de Arrieta to anyone.
What a fantastic weeks holiday we’ve had – 6 nights Garden Cottage and 1 night in the Chiquitita yurts. The quality of the accommodation, friendliness and helpfulness of the Braddock family and staff made the week very special. We added an extra dimension to our holiday by leaving at home our mobile phones, laptops, Nintendo DS and the electronic gadgets we’ve come to rely on. We also decided on no car hire and to use public transport to explore the island, included in this was a determination to use shops, bars and restaurants in Arrieta choosing our food daily and not succumbing to the traditional “Supermarket” shop.
So how did we do? We loved being 10 minutes walk from Arrieta. We’d buy fresh bread twice a day from the village and for breakfast eggs were gleefully collected from the Finca’s brood. We had walking shoes with us for the path to the beach/Arrieta and would change into a Summer sandals by the beach bars. 3 days we used the Arrecife bus, it took us to The Cactus Garden in Guatiza – a real “wow”, The Cesar Manrique Foundation – “stunning” and Costa Teguise via Arrecife.
Our 11 year old son is half boy/ half fish and we jumped at the chance to go on the organised trip to La Graciosa so that he could snorkel in the marine reserve. Not enough people booked the trip but Tila enabled us to do the trip independently. At Graciosa we walked to Playa Francesa ourselves and it really was a snorkelers dream. The free tourist guide book also recommended snorkelling at Playa Jabillo’s man made lagoon, Costa Teguise. After the great success of La Graciosa we headed here. Snorkelling was terrific but 5 hours in Costa Teguise reminded us about how special the Eco accommodation at Finca de Arrieta is – we hailed a taxi for a swift return!
Are we going to book again? Yes! We want to show off this gem to family and friends.
Would we do anything differently? Yes! Next time we will hire a car but the other modern trappings we’ll happily leave behind.
Just spent a week in the Eco Garden Cottage and had a fabulous time. The Cottage is lovely as are the shared areas - the pool area is stunning. Our son made good use of the trampoline and Molly the Donkey (she was very accommodating!). A great place for families with young children with both toys and tolerance in abundance! We very much enjoyed exploring the north of the island and found a fantastic beach on the road to Orzola and enjoyed a trip to the island of Graciosa. Enjoyed sampling food / fish at numerous places. Will be back next year.
We stayed at the Eco Garden Cottage for a week and loved it. The site is fantastic as was the welcome we received and we both loved that the cottage was so cosy. Our favourite things to do: Collect warm eggs from the hens each morning Visit Haria and its fresh fish stall Eat (more) fish and drink Lanzarote wine at Arrieta beach restaurants Spend time on La Graciosa - it's amazing Hitch lifts from friendly locals when you miss the bus!
Eco Garden Cottage - Spent a week in the Garden Cottage and I was blown away by the beauty of the finca and by Lanzarote as a whole. Where to start? The cottage was lovely - clean, spacious and peaceful - comfortable and plenty of room for two and complete with fully stocked kitchen (tea, coffee, milk, sugar and all the useful utensils, plus a few welcome bonuses). The bathroom was clean and the shower nice and warm. Outside was a small private terrace with picnic table and two sun loungers with cushions. The finca itself was stunning - communal areas included a lovely, clean pool and sun lounger area which we had to ourselves most of the time, an outside dining area with cushioned seating and last but not least the Polynesian daybed with inset mattress, simply the most comfortable place to laze away an afternoon or evening. Added to that were the well tended gardens, ping pong and games area, trampoline and the chickens, bunnies and donkey, all of which are grateful of the odd scrap of leftover and great fun to play with. Tila and Michelle who run the finca and other properties around the area are just wonderful, wonderful hosts. Their enthusiasm for their home, way of life and the island itself is catching and they went out of their way and well beyond the call of duty to make sure we got the best out of our stay. They also run several excursions a week, including a trip to the stunning island of Graciosa and the opportunity to have a group meal in the finca (complete with sing song - less cheesy that it sounds I promise!) both of which we took and thoroughly enjoyed. Arrieta, the nearest village, is a short walk away and well worth a visit in itself. Particularly recommended is the garage minimarket with fantastic fresh baked bread in the mornings and a good wine selection, Ta Hoya restaurant (probably one of the best meals I've had in my life - try the prawns in garlic and the octopus) and the beach bar for mojito-ing away the afternoon! On top of all of this Lanzarote was a real revelation - a stunning island with excellent food, wine and cultural attractions on top of it's considerable geological and geographical points of interest. The Lanzagrotty stereotype is only for the lazy - get beyond the all-inclusive hamlets by hiring a car and you'll discover a real gem.
